Question: Does the Tigard Library carry Juvenile Blu-Ray movies?
Answer: Why, yes, as a matter of fact, we do!
Question: Where does the Tigard Library keep Juvenile Blu-Ray movies?
Answer: At the very end of all the Juvenile DVDs, where the Spanish movies used to be.
Question: Well, then, now where are the Spanish movies?
Answer: They are now kept in front of the Juvenile Non-Fiction DVD collection.
I know at least one person who is ecstatic about this news: my husband! And I hope you are, too!
We have moved all the family Blu-Ray movies into the Juvenile collection, and though it is now fairly small, I will be working to beef up this collection with popular feature films. If we don't own a Blu-Ray title you think we should, let me know and I'll see what I can do!

More on Screen Time
Can you tell we liked the presentation by journalist-turned-author, Lisa Guernsey? First Janet, and now I am blogging about it! And I have to admit, my first reaction when I saw we were hosting an author to talk about screen time, was "Great. Now I have another person to make me feel guilty about letting my under-2-year-old watch TV." And it was not that way at all. Lisa focuses more on the quality of TV, apps and video games than the quantity (even for kids under 2), and she offers a pneumonic to help you remember: SPLERN. "SPLERN???" you may ask, "How am I going to remember a nonsense word like that?" That's what I said to myself. But I remembered it without even taking notes, so the acronym did it's job!
- Straight-time story line (the story goes from beginning to end without things like dream sequences, flashbacks, memories, side plots, etc)
- Participation (Dora or Blue's Clues are good examples of this where the kids are actually asked a question and given time to answer, but anything that encourages participation like songs, movement, etc.)
- Labeling (When unfamiliar words or items are shown, they are labeled or defined within the context of the show)
- Engagement (Do the kids like it?)
- Repetition (Speaks for itself)
- Non-Violence (I should probably stop letting Coby watch even the 1981 Spiderman cartoon *cringe*)

Announcing Longer DVD Loan Periods
Beginning today, Monday July 8th, our Adult and Young Adult DVDs will now check out for 3 weeks, just as our Children's DVD's have this year. That means all of our regular DVDs (Juvenile, Young Adult and Adult ) will check out for three weeks. However, this will not apply to our Blue labeled Non-Holdable collection, which will still continue to circulate for only one week, as these are very popular and in high-demand. So no more worrying about getting all those movies you intented to watch over the past week turned in on time (except for the blue labeled ones, of course!). You now get 2 extra weeks!! Hooray!
