Thinker Tinker Lab: Motion Commotion

S.T.E.A.M.
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math)
Join us in the Library Puett Room for our Next Thinker Tinker Lab with "Motion Commotion"
   Monday August 1st, 2-4 p.m.

What exactly is motion?  Have you ever wondered why the apple falls from a tree? Well, English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton who is credited as one of the great minds of the 17th century's Scientific Revolution did and the Three Laws (or Rules) of Motion were born!

Even when we are at rest we are still moving. Instinctively we move quickly or slowly depending on our environment. As the planet Earth is moving, you are growing and changing every day even when everyday motion is not easily observed.

Come in and play games, investigate and problem solve with family and friends, then you too can learn the Three Laws of Motion!  All supplies you need will be provided.  All ages are welcome to attend.

Imagination in a Box!

"With nothing more than a little imagination, boxes can be transformed into forts or houses, spaceships or submarines, castles or caves. Inside a big cardboard box, a child is transported to a world of his or her own, one where anything is possible." - National Toy Hall of Fame

We are on a story time break this week, but that doesn't mean you can't bring the whole family to the Puett Room any time during open hours for some open-ended, Imaginative box play February 22-26! The Puett Room will be filled to the brim with boxes of all shapes and sizes just waiting for you!

Unstructured play with cardboard without an end result builds creativity, imagination and resourcefulness. It's inexpensive fun that will keep your child and you engaged for hours and hours of mindful play!

Thinker Tinker Lab

Thinking by Tinkering!
Starting Monday July 6, and continuing through August 10, from 2-4pm we'll have an all ages drop in program offering process play activities in the Puett Room. Process play activities are ones where there is not set outcome. The idea is to give your kids a chance to use their own ideas with a variety of materials. Kids learn best when they have a chance to work with he familiar materials in new ways. Each week the materials will change, but the idea of tinkering with the materials will stay the same.
