Tualatin Valley Community Band Concert

Tualatin Valley Community Band presents "Songs of the Season" on Sunday October 30th, 2016 at 3-4 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room.  The band made up of local community members will share and play songs of the season.  Some will be spooky and some will be sweet!  And, we highly encourage you all to wear your Halloween costumes at this family-friendly event!

Portland Opera to Go: Hansel and Gretel

On Saturday October 22 at 2:30 p.m., Portland Opera's touring troupe present a live presentation of the Grimm Brother's well known fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel.  This performance will be an adapted 50-minute English-language version of the original 100+ minute German opera by Engelbert Humperdink, which will make for a perfect musical experience for children!

"The Elixir of Love"

On Saturday March 5, 2016

"The Elixir of Love" is a witty, engaging tale of the love-struck Nemorino and the magic elixir that will cure his shyness.  This live performance by the Portland Opera's touring troupe is an adapted, 

50-minute English-language version of the Italian comedic opera.  

It is a perfect opportunity for children to enjoy opera up close and live!

Twin Kennedy Concert

Enjoy the country/roots music of identical twins Carli and Julie Kennedy in their musical role as Twin Kennedy.  With Carli on guitar and Julie on fiddle and bass guitar, this Canadian duo from Victoria, British Columbia will share seamless harmonies and heartfelt songwriting.  Please come enjoy their music on Saturday, January 23rd, 2-3 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room.

CelloBop

Composer and electric cellist Gideon Freudmann will perform a musical fusion of blues, jazz, folk, classical, rock, and more.  His music has been featured on "All Things Considered" on National Public Radio and the television series "Weeds".  Come enjoy this amazing one-man cello performance on Wednesday January 13th at 7 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room.  All ages are welcome to attend.

Holiday Concert

Eric Herman and Puppy Dog Dave Concert

Did you enjoy the Recess Monkey concert last month?  Want to hear some more rockin' kids tunes from musicians who really know and love kids?  Come to our Eric Herman and Puppy Dog Dave concert on Tuesday July 7th at 3 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room.  Eric Herman's music videos have gotten nearly 50 million views on YouTube.  Now you and your family can enjoy the comedy and creativity of this outrageously fun songs firsthand!

Marimba Concert

Celebrate the Fourth of July early with music and dancing from the popular local 8-woman marimba band Chicamarimba!  Their upbeat blend of African and Latin American sounds will get you on your feet.  Enjoy this outdoor concert in the gazebo behind the library building on Wednesday July 1 at 7:00 p.m.  All ages are welcome to attend.  And bring a chair or blanket from home to sit on!  In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be held in the Burgess Community Room.  This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Tigard Library.

Zomba! Marimba Ensemble

Take a musical trip to a sunny place with the warm acoustic sounds of Alberta Rider Elementary School's marimba ensemble, Zomba!  Your ears will be in for one musical treat!

AN IRISH CÉILÍ: Concert and Dance

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day early with lively Irish music and dance performed by Piper Tim Birr, the Kathryn Claire Band, Zak Borden, and dancers from the Claddagh Dance Company.  In the spirit of a traditional ceili (community social gathering), learn some traditional dance steps from Sam Keator.  Join us Wednesday March 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room.  All ages are welcome to attend.

Celtic Winter Solstice

Embrace the warmth of the season with The Stomptowners, a dynamic group featuring traditional Irish instruments, voice, and foot percussion.  They will dance and play ancient carols and traditional tunes of the Celtic winter solstice.  All ages are welcome to come join in the fun on Tuesday December 16th, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room.

IJenNeh: Beautiful African Music

Soaring vocals, simple melodies and killer bass lines highlight the music of musicians Lasana Kenneh and Jeremy Sauer.  IJenNeh is a tasty mix of African, reggae, pop, and gospel music with roots in Liberia.  This is music that is good for your soul.  Kids through adults are welcome to attend this concert in the Burgess Community Room on Saturday August 2nd at 2 p.m.  The concert will conclude at 3:30 p.m.  this program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Tigard Library.

Jug Band Concert

The How Long Jug Band is a group of musicians who plays vintage blues, jazz, and ragtime music on standard and homemade instruments.  In addition to the jug, the band plays harmonica, banjitar, washboard, washtub bass, mandolin, guitar, and kazoo.  Sound like an interesting blend of instruments doesn't it?  The concert is open to all ages and will be held in the Burgess Community Room on Saturday July 26th at 2 p.m.  The concert is expected to conclude at 3:30 p.m.  This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Tigard Library.

Hawaiian Music & More

The five-member band Koral Jam will share the Aloha spirit through music.  This Hawaiian band also performs a wide variety of music from country to rock 'n' roll, disco to reggae, and other contemporary selections.  This fun music experience is open to the whole family and is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Tigard Library.  Join us in the Burgess Community Room on Saturday June 28th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.

It's The Alphabeticians

Come join in the fun with local kids pop/rock band The Alphabeticians who will provide an upbeat, original, quirky music for the whole family.  These guys specialize in the alphabet, so you'll be singing the alphabet backwards in no time at all!  ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA!

SUPER TUESDAY: Zomba! Marimba Ensemble

Take a musical trip to a sunny place with the warm acoustic sounds of Alberta Rider Elementary School's marimba ensemble, Zomba!  Come hear these wonderful sounds on Tuesday May 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room.

Dancing With No Shoes On!

Children's musician, Chuck Cheesman will be joining us on Tuesday March 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room.  Chuck uses original and familiar songs to get families singing, dancing, wiggling and giggling together.  Dancing in your socks is optional!  A favorite program of both parents and kids.  And why not check out his kids CD, Dancing With no Shoes On before the show? 

Oregon Symphony Storytimes

Join us during the month of January as members from the Oregon Symphony will be providing special Symphony Storytimes!  Each story time will feature one of the four instrument families.  Each week an Oregon Symphony musician will add music to the stories that the library picked out just for the special occasion, and an instrument "petting zoo" follows each session.  These story times will replace the previously scheduled Toddler Times on Wednesday mornings.  All sessions will be held in the Burgess Community Room, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

Holiday Handbells Concert

Ring in the holiday season wit the Bells of the Cascades, Oregon's premier community hand bell
ensemble.  They will perform a wide range of hand bell music, including secular, sacred, and popular pieces.  This fun dynamic group transforms age-old bell-ringing traditions into a unique musical event.  This melodious cheer takes place on Tuesday December 17th at 7:30 p.m.  The show is expected to run until 8:30 p.m. and will be held in the Burgess Community Room.  This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Tigard Library.
