2016 BCCCA Award Winner Announced

The 2016 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award Winner has been announced!  This year's winner is Charlie Bumpers vs. the Teacher of the Year by Bill Harley!  Congratulations Bill!

If you are in 1st-3rd grade, you can participate in our Kids Book Club where we will discuss books from the 2016-17 BCCCA nominee list.  Sign-ups begin in August 2016!

2016 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award Voting Now Open!


If you are in 2nd or 3rd grade, and have read at least two titles from the 2016 master list, you are eligible to vote for your favorite book for this year's Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award!  We will have a voting station in the children's room.  Voting will be open March 15-April 10.  Once voting closes, we will send off the votes towards the state-wide tally.  The winning title will be announced a few days later!

Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award Winner Announcement

This year, 40 children at the Tigard Public Library submitted thier vote for their favorite 2015 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award book.  The votes were then submitted towads the state-wide tally.  The winning title was Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli.  Congratulations Jerry!

2014 State Children's Choice Awards Announced!

The 2014 Oregon Reader's Choice Award and Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Awards have been announced!!!

In it's 4th year, the Oregon Reader's Choice Award (ORCA) is sponsored by the Children's Services Division and Oregon Young Adult Network, both divisions of the Oregon Library Association, the Oregon Association for School Libraries, the Oregon Reading Association, and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association.  2635 students from across the state participated in the award in their grade division and voted for their favorite.  The results are:

Upper Elementary (Junior) Division:
Pie by Sarah Weeks

Middle School (Intermediate) Division:
Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life by James Patterson

High school (Senior) Division:
Divergent by Veronica Roth


Now in it's 12th year, the 2014 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award goes to 8 Class Pets = 1 Squirrel (Divided by) 1 Dog = Chaos by Vivian Vande Velde.  The award is sponsored by the Oregon Association for School Libraries and is named after long-time Oregon resident and beloved author, Beverly Cleary.  The award is geared towards books at a 2nd and 3rd grade reading level.

Book Club Lotto Begins TODAY!

Have your kids liven up their reading by joining a book club!  We get together once a month to talk about a great book and enjoy related activities.  Meetings are held once a month on Tuesdays beginning in September.  Submit your child's name at the Children's Reference desk between August 2-30.  Participants will be selected by lottery on Saturday August 31st. 

We've got two great book groups to choose from!  The Kids Book Club is for kids in grades 1-3.  This group will be reading books from the 2013-14 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award Nominee List.  Super Readers is for kids in grades 4-6 and they will be reading books from the 2013-14 Oregon Reader's Choice Award Nominee List.

2013 Beverly Cleary Childen's Choice Award Announced

The 2013 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award winner has been announced!  The winning book is Lulu and the Brontosaurus by Judith Viorst.  This is the story about Lulu and how her parents refuse to give in when she demands a brontosaurus for her birthday.  So she sets out into the woods to find her own dinosaur.  But when Lulu finds a  brontosaurus, she learns that her potential pet has other intentions.

School children all over Oregon voted for their favorite book from a list of six suggested books.  The books nomiated for the award are targeted to the interests and reading level of second and third graders.  The award was created by and sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries and is named after local children's author, Beverly Cleary

Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award Voting


It's time again for children reading at a 2nd and 3rd grade reading level to vote for their favorite book for the 2013 Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award!  Voting is now open and ends on April 10th.  The winner is usually announced on April 12th, which is Beverly Cleary's Birthday!  The books that are eligible for being voted for are:

Zapato Power: Freddie Ramos Takes Off by Jacqueline Jules
The Pup Who Cried Wolf by Chris Kurtz
The Night Fairy by Laura Amy Schlitz
Lulu and the Brontosaurus by Judith Viorst

Elementary School aged children are eligible to vote for their favorite.  However, they need to have read atleast two (2) titles from the list in order to vote.  A voting station will be located in the children's room March 15-April 10.
