City-Wide Smoking Ban Effective July 1, 2016

The City of Tigard is now smoke-free on all city owned properties, parks, and trails.  On February 25, 2016, all city parks and trails became smoke-free.  Effective July 1, 2016, all city owned properties will be smoke-free.  This also means smoking will no longer be allowed on library property.  The new city-wide smoking ban is now part of the city ordinance and contributes to the city's strategic plan on promoting health and wellness.  There are many benefits to having a smoke-free property including a healthy and safe environment for Tigard residents and visitors, especially children and youth.  This new ordinance calls for a fine up to $100 for first-time offenses and no more than $500 for future violations. To read more on this new city ordinance, please visit the city's website on No Smoking/No Vaping.

Pet Food Supply Drive

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season, the City of Tigard is teaming up with the Sunshine Pantry to help animals in need.  Durining financial hardships, families are often forced to give up a beloved family pet.  Spread the cheer with donations of pet food (open & unopened food bags are acceptable), leashes, flea collars, treats, and toys.  Donation bins will be located in City Hall, the Permit Center, and Public Works from November 7 to December 19.  A bin will also be located at the Library from November 21 to December 16.  If you would like a flier, visit: http://www.tigard-or.gov/news/docs/pet_drive.pdf

Summer Wrapping Up

There's just one more week of story times and programs left before we take a quick break (we'll start up again when school starts). Kiddos have until August 31 to turn in their reading logs and get their prizes. Over 2200 kids and 600 teens signed up for the Summer Reading Program at the Tigard Library. That's excellent!

Other things to remember:
1. Our Book Club registrations start on Saturday, August 20.
2. September is the City of Tigard's 50th birthday (that's an important one!). You can bet we'll be celebrating.
3. Starting in September Tigard will be reading all together in our community reads program. The theme? Hint: All of our programs will be out of this world! Check back for details.
